Does taking the sissy bar off make the passenger seatmore comfortable?

I just passed my road test after almost a year of riding with my temp. permit, so now my girlfriend bought a helment and we went on a 45 minute ride. Well with her on the back, it makes it uncomfortable for both of us. I'm pushed up towards the gas tank, and neither of us have much room to move around. Our buts were really sore, especially on the way back. If I take off the sissy bar, it wil give her about an extra inch, so I'm thinking it will make it better for the both of us.Has anyone tried this?
